This accommodation is a two bed-roomed cortijo, close to the small village of Otivar, a 15 minute drive to the seaside town of Almuñecar, south of Granada, in southern Spain, situated between either Malaga or Granada airport, in the heart of Andalucia, offering a superb setting with comfortable, clean, spacious rooms and a swimming pool.
This cortijo would appeal to people who want to get away from the usual Spanish apartment scenario and enjoy complete rural living.
The accommodation comprises a large double bedroom, second bedroom with bunk beds, large shower room and American style kitchen and living area, containing a double sofa bed to accommodate two more people if necessary.
The cortijo is completely private with own parking and has a small private swimming pool and large sitting and eating area and is part of a small fruit farm. Avocados, mangos, oranges, lemons, bananas, figs, grapes, plums and pomegranates are grown on the farm at varying times of the year.
The cortijo is situated north of Almuñecar, and is very accessible from the main Granada road. The surrounding views are of the neighbouring village Jete and beautiful mountains. There is no main line electricity to the property, but a wind turbine (with a backup petrol generator), provides power. (Important: see notes on power).
The Sierra Nevada is an hour and 15 minutes away for ski-ing during the winter months and beaches on the Mediterranean are 15 minutes drive. The area is popular for hang-gliding, walking, climbing and bird watching. Equipment and lessons for hang-gliding are available in the local town of La Herradura
Granada and Malaga airports are an hour and 15 minutes away. You can get bargain flights flights from London Stanstead direct to Granada for approx £50 return with Ryanair.
Also flying to Granada is Monarch Airlines who fly from Gatwick.
The village of Otivar has several bars and restaurants, two banks (one with a 24 hour cash dispenser), small shops selling local produce and furniture and a village supermarket. Fresh fish is delivered to the village from the coast daily and local bread and delicacies can be bought from the two bakeries. A community pool lies at the top of the village and is open between June and September.
